You need to get just the 2g plan,
Apply for airtel 3G by sending sms 3G to 121
activate 3g on your mobile...
note: It will show that your 2g plan will be disabled but they wont do that.....
After that goto your mobile settings>phone>network
You come to the screen as seen below
Select dual mode or UTMS and enjoy 3G at rate of 2G....
I have not tried this trick on other networks apart from AIRTEL....
